How to make money with Clickbank products
When you are first starting out, it may be difficult to find products to promote, unless you have your own products. One of the first places that I was able to sign up with and promote products for was Clickbank. This is a good place to start as you build out your site.
Depending on your niche, Clickbank pays some higher commission rates in the industry. They promote a variety of start-up products that can pay between 10 to 70%. These may be physical products that are sent directly from the manufacture to the customer or digital products that the customers will receive links to download their products from.
Working with Clickbank is easy since they handle the payments from the customers, handles disputes or refunds, and even send you your commission payments. Not a bad way to go, especially when starting out.
How to get started with Clickbank
The first thing that you will need to do is to set up a free affiliate account with Clickbank. This only takes a few minutes to fill out their forms. You can see by the partial form here what type of information they will need.
After you have set up your affiliate account, Clickbank will make an offer for you to join Clickbank University. The training that is provided is not bad and is $47 a month, but it is all geared toward paid advertising, which is fine once you have made some money, but I was better off building my site first.
If you do join Clickbank University, they will offer their website package to you, this will cost around $600. I thought this was a little steep and didn’t want to spend that kind of money to get started.
To learn to build your own website for free, read my review on Wealthy Affiliate. To me, this was a much better choice for me to learn and create my websites. I still promote Clickbank products, but I canceled the university after the first month.
How to select which Clickbank products to promote
This should be the easy part if you have already chosen your niche, if not read “How to choose your niche”.
After choosing your niche, you look for products that are related to it.
- Go to the marketplace
- Either select the category on the left side or type in the search box what you are looking for
- For example, I clicked on Green Products – this displays a list of 33 products under that category.
The first listing is “New Battery Reconditioning Course”. You can read the description to see if it’s something that you are interested in. I like to click the name and that will take me to the sales page, where the customers go. I can also click the affiliate page for information that I need to promote the product, banners, links, and such.
Notice that the average sale is $48.54. That is the cost of the item.
Here is the page when I click on the affiliate link. The first thing that jumps out at me is I can earn up to $148.50 off one sale. This is because when a customer goes to the site and purchases the product for $48.54, they are given additional offers to purchase more products. If they end up purchasing all the offers, you will make $148.50 off that one customer. Sounds great, but only a small percent of people that click your link will purchase the first product and fewer will purchase additional products.
Sales is a numbers game, the more people you send there, the more potential sales you can make, which means more commissions in your pocket.
Let’s look at the stats next:
Initial $/Sale $48.54 – this is the price of the first product offered
Avg %/Sale 75% – is the average affiliate commission percent of the sale
Avg Rebill – this is a one-time sales product and has no subscription or rebilled amount. Reoccurring charges from a customer will mean that you will collect a fee each month that they continue to purchase or subscribe to the product.
Gravity – this is a statistics performance measure to show how many affiliates that are promoting this product are making money. The higher the number means more people are making money with this product.
Spend some time looking at various products before you select any. There is no rush. Find a couple that will fit in your Niche, then write a review or articles on the information that you research. Don’t be afraid to try the products yourself. Your reviews will be much better when you have first-hand knowledge and experience with the product.
What do I do when I have found a product that I want to promote?
Once you have found a product, click the red Promote button. This is where you will receive your link to send customers to the sales page. You can also get banners, ads, and additional information when you click on the product’s affiliate link.
When you have your link, banners, ads, and images, you are now ready to promote the products on your site. You can place ads on your site’s main pages and in your articles.
There are other ways to promote the products through social media and paid ads. I always recommend trying to build out your site’s content and getting free traffic first. As your site gains in authority, your rankings will improve, which will lead to more visitors and potential sales.
Final Thoughts
To me, Clickbank is just another tool that I can use that will help me make money. When you get your site going, you will be able to sign up with other affiliate programs like Amazon and increase your earnings. Amazon’s commission rate will be much smaller, but they will add up. A 5% commission on a $25 item is better than no commission on a $100 item.
Clickbank is a good way to start and possibly earn as you build your site, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t make any sales immediately. Building a site will take time and this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. This is a legit business, so we need to treat it as such.
This should give you enough information to help you decide if you want to check out ClickBank further. You can go to clickbank.com and research from there.

Thank you for the information.
I was a little overwhelmed when I signed up with clickbank because of their university as well. I was just looking for affiliate links and it looked like to me that it was a whole other site – like WA.
After reading your article I will definitely & seriously browse around the site and see if there is anything useful to me!
Cheers,
Kahlua
Hi Kahlua,
I like the commission rate on the clickbank products. The university did teach me a few things, but they are so focused on paid advertising, that turned me off a bit. There website builder to me seemed a little pricey.
When I found Wealthy Affiliate, I learned a lot about how to set up my site and running it. How to create valuable content for my readers and so much more. I would recommend Wealthy Affiliate to anyone, whether you are just starting out or have been around a while.
Best of luck,
Jim
